Theo Katzman: the Man, they Myth, the Musician

My Dear Disco has enjoyed many years of playing with Theo, and now the time has come for him to leave his My Dear Disco family and further his budding solo career. MDD is very excited for Theo and you will be too!  Make sure to keep up with Theo’s latest developments — he’s already blown the lid off of Sullivan Hall in NYC, Bell’s in Kalamazoo, and The Ark in Ann Arbor.

And what is MDD up to, you ask?

My Dear Disco has recently started touring a spanking-new show.  We’ve got plenty of tricks up our sleeves and can’t wait to show you what’s been brewing.  MDD will be taking the show to both the East and West coasts, along with some stops in the beloved Midwest.

Stay tuned for tour dates and new music – we’ll be leaking some sounds from our album sometime this week.

This boy and this llama both think that the football is MC's corner. Don't worry langsty llama and child - there is e new MC's corner!

Both llama and small child hungrily mistook the football for MC's corner. Don't worry excited llama and small chid - there is a new MC's corner for you to share!

NEWS
Have you heard of Bodyrock?  He’s this crazy DJ.  At his last show, peeps got naked.  I started listening to his latest mix and my socks started to sneak off my feet.  Bodyrock’s got some serious chops.  Seriously, he’s got facial hair, and mad DJ skills to boot.  Check him out.

VIDEO

BT tweeted about this guy/these guys.  It’s kind of creepy that one guy is singing all the parts and swaying all over the stage, but that’s also what makes this so impressive.  Ok, around 3:00, this dude sounds just like MJ.  Crazy.

MUSIC
High Places -- “From Stardust to Sentience”

(recommended by Sabina Sciubba of the Brazilian Girls in a strange interview with the Bostonist)

Sabina Sciubba -- “So Close and Yet So Far”

Jeff Beck ft. Imogen Heap -- “Rollin’ and Tumblin’”
(I couldn’t find a link for you guys, but check it out on iTunes)

Sara Bareilles -- “Gravity”
(I first heard this song while watching Fox’s best of So You Think You Can Dance.  Mia Michaels’s choreography is heartbreakingly beautiful.  I can’t tell if this song would have moved me as much without having seen Mia Michaels’s dance about addiction. Thoughts?  )

omg, I got chills just watching it start up again. I wish there was some way to turn off the psycho screaming crowd.  Oh Fox).

Mute Math -- “The Nerve”

TOYS
Here is a relaxing online musical toy my friend sent me.  It’s called the Tone Matrix.  OOOOoooh.

These dogs are so hungry for MC's corner!

These puppies are so hungry for MC's corner!

check out Tyler’s nifty yellow MDD shirt that we hand screenprinted in our living room.  we’ll be making a limited number of MDD shirts and selling them at our shows, so get your butt to a show and get your bod into one of these shirts.

MUSIC

Laughing With” -- Regina Spektor
(painfully clever and relevant. the mp3 is in the middle of an interview, just click the play button)

“Shempi” -- Ratatat
(if i ruled the world, videogame music would sound like this! well it sort of already does)

“Her Rotating Head” -- Bachelorette
(this is what the new Camera Obscura album SHOULD have sounded like. also has a crazy music video)

“Dream” -- Alice Smith
(funky and soulful -- it should have been a hit)

“David” -- The Radio Dept.
(think My Bloody Valentine meets Junior Boys…soft and fuzzy distortion, electronic drums, sounds drowning in reverb, and don’t forget the hand claps)

THINGS

The LifeStraw
(something that allows people all over the word to drink clean water)

Trader Joe’s
(just taking a minute to appreciate the incredible wonder that is TRADER JOE)

till next time,

MC

We’ve started recording 5 new songs!  We’ll be releasing them this summer.  Here’s a little vid of the first bass recording session in our home studio.  Stay tuned for more updates as the process continues — we can’t wait to get this new music out into the world!
